Reading 101

Filed under: My Thoughts — Abeer @ 7:22 pm

It’s been a year since i felt like i have nothing to do in my free time… i have no hobbies.. no special talents.. nothing really interesting that i can do by myself..
I realized that all the things I like to do are limited in talking for hours with friends or family “especially my brother”, talking on the phone, try some cooking recipes “which i end up eating them as nobody would even try any”, checking new posts at Jordan Planet, and googling!!
so many people advised me to start reading… i really liked the idea!! it would keep me entertained in my free time.. and it would help me improve my language skills..
so i started asking my friends about what do they read, and what books they recommend for reading.., i got so many suggestions…
I preferred reading an Arabic book, as it’s my language and it would be much easier for me as a start… many people recommended في بيتنا رجل” للكاتب إحسان عبد القدوس even Lina got it on get favorite books list.. so i thought it must be an interesting book!
so i got the book and started reading.., i couldn’t finish page 16!! i always get sleepy before i finish reading one page! Not that it’s boring!! but well.. the first 16 pages are really boring!!
so i thought maybe It’s not my type of books..
Shaden recomended “The Zahir”.. so i got the arabic version and started reading it… i was shocked how reading tend to be not boring at all.. i was attached to that book! i really liked it..
i don’t know how to talk about books.. and i don’t know what exactly that i liked about that book… but i liked the idea of reading!!!
many friends of mine “who pretty much don’t read unless they have to study” were asking me why did i start reading!! and told me to have a break from books.. “ma bekaffi el draseh?!”

After i officially finished reading my first i was so excited to read the next one… I wanted it to be a different style of books… so i grabbed “He’s Just Not That Into You” from the bookshelve at the bookstore… i knew it was nothing like my previous book.. but i wanted to see what’s it all about since i watched an interview with the writer on Oprah … i didn’t like it much… not my type of books.. so i decided to read another book by Paulo Coelho “The Alchemist” after many people recomended it… and so i did… and it’s amazing… i really don’t know what excatly that i liked about it… i even got bored reading it as he keep repeating similar ideas over and over… but well maybe that’s what i liked about his book… if i got the idea i really don’t have to read teh rest of the book and i start skipping pages :)

I never expect myself to read books in my free time.. i thought that was “not kool”… i confess that i was soooo wrong!! reading rocks! so for those of you who doesn’t read… just try to find the right book.. and you’ll love it :)
